Terry Lynn Nichols (born April 1, 1955) is an American domestic terrorist who was convicted for his role in the Oklahoma City bombing on April 19, 1995. The bombing resulted in the deaths of 168 people and the destruction of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Nichols was an accomplice of Timothy McVeigh, the primary perpetrator of the bombing.
Early Life[edit | edit source]
Terry Nichols was born in Lapeer, Michigan, and grew up on a farm in Sanilac County, Michigan. He attended Central Michigan University for one term before dropping out. Nichols later enlisted in the United States Army in 1988, where he met Timothy McVeigh.
Oklahoma City Bombing[edit | edit source]
The Oklahoma City bombing was a domestic terrorist truck bombing on the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building. Nichols and McVeigh constructed the bomb using agricultural fertilizer, diesel fuel, and other chemicals. On April 19, 1995, McVeigh detonated the bomb, causing massive destruction and loss of life.
Arrest and Trial[edit | edit source]
Nichols was arrested shortly after the bombing. He faced federal charges of conspiracy to use a weapon of mass destruction and eight counts of involuntary manslaughter. In 1997, Nichols was found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. He is currently incarcerated at the ADX Florence supermax prison in Florence, Colorado.
Personal Life[edit | edit source]
Nichols was married to Lana Padilla, with whom he had one son. He later married Marife Torres, a mail-order bride from the Philippines, and had two more children. His relationships and personal life have been the subject of various media reports and investigations.
