Texas State University System
Texas State University System (TSUS) is a state university system in Texas, United States. It is the oldest university system in Texas, having been established in 1911. The system is unique in Texas because it is the only one with institutions that are both collegiate and technical. Over the years, TSUS has grown to include eight institutions that offer a wide range of undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs.
History[edit | edit source]
The Texas State University System was created in 1911 to oversee the state's normal schools (teacher training colleges). Since its inception, the system has expanded significantly, both in terms of its size and the diversity of its academic offerings. The system was initially formed to manage teacher certification and training but has since evolved to include comprehensive universities and technical schools.

These regents are appointed by the Governor of Texas, with the advice and consent of the state senate, for staggered six-year terms. The Board of Regents is responsible for setting policy for the system, approving budgets, and making major decisions regarding the direction of the system and its institutions.

Several institutions within the TSUS are recognized for their research contributions, particularly in areas such as education, criminal justice, engineering, and environmental science. The system encourages collaborative research efforts among its institutions and with external partners to address complex challenges and contribute to the state's economic development.
