Texas State University System (TSUS) is a state university system in Texas, United States. It is the oldest university system in Texas, having been established in 1911. The system is unique in Texas because it is the only one with institutions that are both collegiate and technical. Over the years, TSUS has grown to include eight institutions that offer a wide range of undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs.

History[edit | edit source]

The Texas State University System was created in 1911 to oversee the state's normal schools (teacher training colleges). Since its inception, the system has expanded significantly, both in terms of its size and the diversity of its academic offerings. The system was initially formed to manage teacher certification and training but has since evolved to include comprehensive universities and technical schools.

The Texas State University System comprises eight member institutions:

Each institution within the system maintains its own identity and mission but is governed by the TSUS Board of Regents, which oversees administration, policy, and fiscal management.

Governance[edit | edit source]

The Texas State University System is governed by a Board of Regents, which consists of nine members and a student regent. These regents are appointed by the Governor of Texas, with the advice and consent of the state senate, for staggered six-year terms. The Board of Regents is responsible for setting policy for the system, approving budgets, and making major decisions regarding the direction of the system and its institutions.

Academic Programs[edit | edit source]
