The Innocent (1985 film)

The Innocent is a 1985 drama film directed by John Schlesinger. The film is based on the novel of the same name by Ian McEwan. It stars Anthony Hopkins, Isabella Rossellini, and Campbell Scott.

The film is set in Berlin during the Cold War. It follows the story of Leonard Marnham, a young British technician who is sent to work on a joint CIA/MI6 operation to tap the phone lines of the Soviet High Command. Leonard becomes romantically involved with Maria, a beautiful German woman, and their relationship becomes complicated by the espionage activities and the political tensions of the time.
