Theakston Brewery
Theakston Brewery is a British regional brewery located in Masham, North Yorkshire, England. It is one of the oldest family-run breweries in the United Kingdom, having been established in 1827 by Robert Theakston. The brewery is renowned for its traditional ales and has a significant place in the history of British brewing.

Theakston Brewery was founded in 1827 by Robert Theakston in the market town of Masham. The brewery has remained in the Theakston family for most of its history, with the exception of a brief period in the late 20th century when it was owned by Scottish & Newcastle. In 2004, the Theakston family regained control of the brewery.
Beers[edit | edit source]
Theakston Brewery produces a range of traditional ales, including:
- Theakston Old Peculier - A strong ale that is one of the brewery's flagship products.
- Theakston Best Bitter - A classic English bitter.
- Theakston XB - A premium bitter.
- Theakston Lightfoot - A golden ale.
Brewery Tours[edit | edit source]
Theakston Brewery offers guided tours of its facilities, providing visitors with an insight into the brewing process and the history of the brewery. The tours include a visit to the cooperage, where traditional wooden casks are made and repaired.

Theakston Brewery is one of the few breweries in the UK that still has its own cooperage. The cooperage is an integral part of the brewery, maintaining the traditional wooden casks that are used to store and transport the ales.

Theakston Brewery has received numerous awards for its ales, including accolades from the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) and various beer festivals.
