Tirupati Municipal Corporation
Tirupati Municipal Corporation is the governing body of the city of Tirupati, located in the Chittoor district of the Andhra Pradesh state, India. It is responsible for the civic infrastructure and administration of the city which is considered one of the holiest Hindu pilgrimage sites due to the famous Venkateswara Temple dedicated to Lord Venkateswara, an incarnation of Vishnu.

The municipality of Tirupati was established in the year 1886. Over the years, it has seen significant growth in terms of both area and population due to its religious importance and the influx of pilgrims. Recognizing the need for a more robust administrative mechanism to handle the growing demands of urban management and development, the municipality was upgraded to a municipal corporation on 2nd March 2007.
Jurisdiction[edit | edit source]
The jurisdiction of the Tirupati Municipal Corporation extends over an area of approximately 27.44 square kilometers. It encompasses not only the city of Tirupati but also its suburbs, making it responsible for a significant urban population. The corporation is divided into several wards, each represented by an elected councilor. The administrative head of the corporation is the Municipal Commissioner, who is an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer appointed by the state government.

The primary functions of the Tirupati Municipal Corporation include:

The council members are elected from the various wards of the city, while the Mayor is elected by the council members.
