Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]

Career[edit | edit source]

Founding of Raising Cane's[edit | edit source]

The idea for Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers originated during Graves' college years. He developed a business plan for a restaurant that would serve high-quality chicken fingers, but his proposal was initially rejected by his professors and potential investors. Undeterred, Graves worked as a boilermaker in a refinery and as a commercial fisherman in Alaska to raise the necessary capital to start his business.

In 1996, Graves opened the first Raising Cane's restaurant near the LSU campus in Baton Rouge. The restaurant was named after his yellow Labrador Retriever, "Raising Cane." The concept was simple: a limited menu focused on chicken fingers, crinkle-cut fries, coleslaw, Texas toast, and Cane's Sauce.

Expansion and Growth[edit | edit source]

Raising Cane's quickly gained popularity for its high-quality food and customer service. The brand's success led to rapid expansion, with locations opening across the United States and internationally. As of 2023, Raising Cane's operates over 600 locations worldwide.

Graves' leadership and vision have been instrumental in the company's growth. He emphasizes a strong company culture, community involvement, and employee satisfaction. Raising Cane's is known for its "One Love" philosophy, focusing on serving the best chicken finger meals.

Todd Graves is actively involved in philanthropy and community service. He has supported numerous charitable organizations and initiatives, particularly those related to education, animal welfare, and disaster relief. Raising Cane's often participates in fundraising events and community service projects, reflecting Graves' commitment to giving back.
