Tonsil Hospital

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

Tonsil Hospital was a specialized hospital in Manhattan, New York City that operated from 1921 to 1946. Its primary focus was on removing the tonsils and adenoids of underprivileged children. The hospital was housed in a four-story walkup building and relied on funding from society, donors, sponsorships, and fundraisers to support its operations. Tonsillectomy, the removal of tonsils, was a common procedure at the time, and the hospital's medical director, Robert Fowler, sought to improve the surgical techniques used. Tonsil Hospital played a significant role in providing healthcare to the less fortunate during its existence.
