Torabhaig distillery
Torabhaig Distillery is a whisky distillery located on the Isle of Skye, Scotland. It is the second legal distillery on the island and the first to be built in over 190 years. The distillery is owned by Mossburn Distillers, a company that specializes in the production of Scotch whisky.
History[edit | edit source]
The Torabhaig Distillery was established in 2017, making it one of the newest distilleries in Scotland. The distillery is housed in a renovated 19th-century farmstead, which was carefully restored to maintain its historical character. The distillery's location on the Isle of Skye provides it with a unique terroir that influences the flavor of its whisky.
Production[edit | edit source]
The production process at Torabhaig Distillery follows traditional methods. The distillery uses locally sourced barley, which is malted and then fermented in wooden washbacks. The fermented liquid, known as wort, is then distilled in copper pot stills. The whisky is aged in oak casks, which are stored in the distillery's warehouses. The aging process can take several years, during which the whisky develops its distinctive flavor and aroma.
Products[edit | edit source]
Torabhaig Distillery produces a range of single malt Scotch whiskies. The distillery's flagship product is the Torabhaig Legacy Series, a collection of whiskies that showcase the distillery's unique style and character. Other products include limited edition releases and special cask finishes.
Tourism[edit | edit source]
The Torabhaig Distillery is open to the public for tours and tastings. Visitors can learn about the distillery's history, the whisky production process, and taste the distillery's products. The distillery also has a shop where visitors can purchase its whiskies and other merchandise.
