Trello
Trello is a web-based, Kanban-style list-making application developed by Trello Enterprise, a subsidiary of Atlassian. Trello was created by Fog Creek Software in 2011, and later spun out to form its own company in 2014 before being acquired by Atlassian in January 2017.
Overview[edit | edit source]
Trello is designed to help individuals and teams organize their projects and tasks through a visual interface. The application uses "boards" to represent projects, which contain "lists" that hold "cards." Each card represents a task or item, and users can move cards between lists to indicate progress.
Features[edit | edit source]
- Boards: The main organizational unit in Trello, representing a project or a workspace.
- Lists: Columns within a board that categorize tasks or stages of a project.
- Cards: Individual tasks or items that can be moved between lists.
- Labels: Color-coded tags that can be added to cards for categorization.
- Checklists: Sub-tasks within a card to break down tasks into smaller steps.
- Attachments: Files and links that can be added to cards.
- Comments: Notes and discussions that can be added to cards for collaboration.
- Due Dates: Deadlines that can be assigned to cards.
- Power-Ups: Integrations and additional features that can be added to boards, such as calendar views, automation, and third-party app integrations.
Usage[edit | edit source]
Trello is used by a wide range of users, from individuals managing personal tasks to large teams coordinating complex projects. It is popular in various fields, including software development, marketing, education, and event planning.
History[edit | edit source]
Trello was initially developed by Fog Creek Software and launched at the TechCrunch Disrupt conference in 2011. The tool quickly gained popularity due to its intuitive interface and flexibility. In 2014, Trello was spun out into its own company, Trello Inc. In January 2017, Trello was acquired by Atlassian for $425 million.
