Tullamore Dew

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

Tullamore Dew is a brand of Irish whiskey that is produced by William Grant & Sons. It is one of the most widely distributed brands of Irish whiskey globally. The name Tullamore Dew comes from the combination of the town of Tullamore in Ireland, where the whiskey is produced, and the initials of an early manager of the concern, Daniel E. Williams (D.E.W.).

History[edit | edit source]

Tullamore Dew was first distilled in 1829 in the small town of Tullamore in County Offaly, in the heart of Ireland. The brand was initially produced by the Tullamore Distillery, which was established by Michael Molloy. On his death, the distillery was passed to his nephew, Bernard Daly who later appointed Daniel E. Williams as the distillery's General Manager. Williams brought about great innovation to the distillery, including the introduction of the pot still, and his initials were added to the whiskey's name.

Production[edit | edit source]

Tullamore Dew is a blended whiskey that combines grain, malt, and pot still whiskeys. The production process involves three stages: malting, mashing, and fermentation. The whiskey is then triple distilled and aged in oak casks for a minimum of three years. The unique blend of whiskeys gives Tullamore Dew its smooth and complex flavor profile, with notes of malt, nut, and spice.

Varieties[edit | edit source]

There are several varieties of Tullamore Dew available, including the Original, 12 Year Old Special Reserve, 15 Year Old Trilogy, and the 18 Year Old Single Malt. Each variety has its own unique taste and character, but all share the smoothness and complexity that is characteristic of the Tullamore Dew brand.

Recognition[edit | edit source]

Tullamore Dew has received numerous awards and accolades for its quality and taste. It is recognized as one of the finest Irish whiskeys available and is enjoyed by whiskey connoisseurs around the world.
