Uganda Martyrs University

Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) is a private university in Uganda affiliated with the Roman Catholic Church. It is named after the Uganda Martyrs, a group of 23 Anglican and 22 Catholic converts to Christianity in the historical kingdom of Buganda, now part of Uganda, who were executed between 31 January 1885 and 27 January 1887.

History

Uganda Martyrs University was established in 1993 by the Episcopal Conference of the Catholic Bishops of Uganda. The university opened its doors to students on 18 October 1993 with 84 students enrolled. The institution was founded to provide quality higher education rooted in Christian values and ethics, aiming to produce graduates who are not only competent professionals but also responsible citizens.

Campus

The main campus of Uganda Martyrs University is located in Nkozi, approximately 82 kilometers southwest of Kampala, the capital city of Uganda. The campus is situated on a hill overlooking Lake Victoria. Over the years, UMU has expanded and now includes several other campuses across the country, offering a variety of programs.
