Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) is a public research university located in Penang, Malaysia. Established in 1969, it is one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in the country. USM is recognized for its strong emphasis on research and innovation, and it is one of the few universities in Malaysia to be granted the status of Accelerated Program for Excellence (APEX) by the Malaysian government.

USM was established in 1969 as the second university in Malaysia. Initially, it was known as Universiti Pulau Pinang. The university was founded with the aim of providing higher education opportunities to the people of Malaysia and to contribute to the development of the nation through research and innovation.

Campuses[edit | edit source]

USM operates three campuses:

  • Main Campus: Located in Gelugor, Penang, this is the primary campus of USM. It houses the majority of the university's faculties and administrative offices.
  • Engineering Campus: Situated in Nibong Tebal, Penang, this campus focuses on engineering and technology programs.
  • Health Campus: Located in Kubang Kerian, Kelantan, this campus specializes in medical and health sciences education.
