University of Ghana

The University of Ghana is the oldest and largest of the thirteen Ghanaian national public universities. It was founded in 1948, in the British colony of the Gold Coast, as the University College of the Gold Coast, and was originally an affiliate college of the University of London, which supervised its academic programs and awarded degrees. It gained full university status in 1961, and now has nearly 40,000 students.

The University of Ghana was established to provide higher education, learning, and research. It was initially founded as the University College of the Gold Coast by the colonial administration with the guidance and support of the University of London. The university's main campus is located at Legon, just a few kilometers north of the capital, Accra. It was formed with the aim of promoting higher learning, fostering national development through research, and adapting the educational curriculum to reflect the African environment and heritage.

The main campus in Legon comprises various faculties, departments, a central library, residential halls, administrative offices, and several research centers.
