University of Maryland, College Park (UMD, UMCP, or Maryland) is a public university located in College Park, Maryland. It is the flagship institution of the University System of Maryland and is considered a Public Ivy, recognized for its high academic standards and significant research contributions. Established in 1856 as the Maryland Agricultural College, the university has grown significantly over the years, both in size and in the breadth of its academic offerings.
