University of Miami

The University of Miami (UM) is a private research university located in Coral Gables, Florida, United States. Established in 1925 during the region's famous real estate boom, UM has grown to become one of the nation's top research universities. Known for its rigorous academic programs, diverse student body, and its significant contributions to research, particularly in the fields of marine science, engineering, education, and health care, the University of Miami offers a rich and dynamic educational environment.

The University of Miami was chartered in 1925 with the intent of offering unique opportunities to develop inter-American studies, enhance teaching in the arts and letters, and conduct research in the tropics. Opening its doors in the fall of 1926, the university welcomed its first class of students amidst the backdrop of the Great Miami Hurricane, which significantly impacted the early development of the institution. UM's main campus is located in Coral Gables, a city southwest of Downtown Miami. The campus is known for its distinctive Mediterranean Revival architecture and lush subtropical landscaping. In addition to the Coral Gables campus, the University of Miami operates the Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine campus, situated in the Miami Health District near downtown Miami, and the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science on Virginia Key.

Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine[edit | edit source]

The Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine at the University of Miami is a cornerstone of the university's health sciences division. Established in 1952, it has become a leader in medical education, biomedical research, and patient care. The school is affiliated with several hospitals in the area, providing students with a wide range of clinical experiences.
