University of Peradeniya is a premier public university located in Peradeniya, a suburb of Kandy, Sri Lanka. Established as the University of Ceylon in 1942, it was Sri Lanka's first university and was originally located in Colombo. The university was officially moved to Peradeniya in 1952 and thus renamed to reflect its new location.
