University of Regina is a public research university located in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. Founded in 1911 as a private denominational high school of the Methodist Church of Canada, it began an association with the University of Saskatchewan as a junior college in 1925, and was disaffiliated by the Church and fully ceded to the University in 1934; in 1961, it gained full autonomy as a university. The University of Regina has its roots in Regina College, a small residential high school established by the Methodist church in 1911. The University of Regina operates on the traditional lands of the Cree, Saulteaux, Dakota, Lakota, and Nakoda, and the homeland of the Métis.

The University of Regina was first established as Regina College in 1911. The college grew in size and scope over the years, becoming affiliated with the University of Saskatchewan as a junior college in 1925. This affiliation allowed students to take the first years of their university education at Regina College before transferring to the University of Saskatchewan to complete their degrees. In 1934, the college was fully ceded to the University of Saskatchewan and became its Regina Campus. It wasn't until 1961 that the Regina Campus was granted full autonomy as a university by the Saskatchewan government, leading to the establishment of the University of Regina as it is known today.

The main campus of the University of Regina is situated in Wascana Centre, a 930-hectare park built around Wascana Lake. This location provides a beautiful setting for the university's buildings and facilities, including the modern research institutes, the extensive library system, and various student residences. The university also has a College Avenue campus, which houses some of the university's more historic buildings, as well as the Federated Colleges of Campion College, Luther College, and the First Nations University of Canada.
