Valentine
Valentine may refer to a number of different topics, most commonly associated with Saint Valentine's Day, a holiday celebrated on February 14th. The term "Valentine" is often used to refer to a card or gift given on this day, or to the person to whom such a gift is given.
Saint Valentine[edit | edit source]
Saint Valentine was a 3rd-century Roman saint, commemorated in Western Christianity on February 14 and in Eastern Orthodoxy on July 6. Although not much of St. Valentine's life is reliably known, and whether or not the stories involve two different saints by the same name is also not officially decided, it is highly agreed that St. Valentine was martyred and then buried on the Via Flaminia to the north of Rome.
Valentine's Day[edit | edit source]
Valentine's Day, also called Saint Valentine's Day or the Feast of Saint Valentine, is celebrated annually on February 14. It originated as a Christian feast day honoring one or two early Christian martyrs named Saint Valentine and, through later folk traditions, has become a significant cultural, religious, and commercial celebration of romance and love in many regions of the world.
Other Uses[edit | edit source]
Valentine may also refer to:
- Valentine (name), a given name and surname
- Valentine (film), a 2001 film
- Valentine (novel), a novel by Tom Savage
- Valentine (song), a song by Jim Brickman and Jack Kugell
