Vancenase aq
Vancenase AQ is a brand name for the drug beclomethasone dipropionate, a synthetic corticosteroid derived from hydrocortisone. It is primarily used in the treatment of allergic rhinitis, asthma, and nasal polyps.
Pharmacology[edit | edit source]
Beclomethasone dipropionate, the active ingredient in Vancenase AQ, is a prodrug that is metabolized into the active form, beclomethasone-17-monopropionate (17-BMP), in the lungs. It has potent anti-inflammatory and vasoconstrictive effects, which help to reduce the symptoms of allergic rhinitis and asthma.
Indications[edit | edit source]
Vancenase AQ is indicated for the treatment of the nasal symptoms of seasonal or perennial allergic and non-allergic (vasomotor) rhinitis, as well as for the treatment of nasal polyps. It is also used as an adjunctive therapy for the treatment of asthma.
Side Effects[edit | edit source]
Common side effects of Vancenase AQ include nasal irritation, sneezing, and throat irritation. More serious side effects may include adrenal suppression, cataracts, glaucoma, and decreased bone mineral density.
Contraindications[edit | edit source]
Vancenase AQ is contraindicated in patients with a known hypersensitivity to beclomethasone dipropionate or any of the ingredients in the formulation. It is also contraindicated in patients with untreated localized infections involving the nasal mucosa.
Interactions[edit | edit source]
Vancenase AQ may interact with other drugs, including other corticosteroids, certain antifungal medications, and certain HIV medications. It is important for patients to inform their healthcare provider of all medications they are currently taking.
