Virginia Gentleman
Virginia Gentleman is a brand of bourbon whiskey produced by the A. Smith Bowman Distillery in Fredericksburg, Virginia. The distillery, which has been in operation since 1934, is known for its small batch and single barrel products, including Virginia Gentleman.
History[edit | edit source]
The A. Smith Bowman Distillery was founded by Abram Smith Bowman and his sons, Abram Smith Bowman Jr. and DeLong Bowman. The distillery was originally located on the Bowman family's Sunset Hills Farm in Fairfax County, Virginia. In 1988, the distillery moved to its current location in Fredericksburg.
Virginia Gentleman is made using a traditional bourbon recipe, with a mash bill consisting of corn, rye, and malted barley. The whiskey is aged in charred oak barrels for a minimum of four years before it is bottled and sold.
Production[edit | edit source]
The production of Virginia Gentleman begins with the fermentation of the mash, which is a mixture of corn, rye, and malted barley. The mash is then distilled in a copper still, which is a process that separates the alcohol from the rest of the mash.
After distillation, the whiskey is aged in charred oak barrels. The aging process allows the whiskey to absorb flavors from the wood, which contributes to its distinctive taste. The whiskey is aged for a minimum of four years before it is ready to be bottled.
Taste and Awards[edit | edit source]
Virginia Gentleman has a smooth, rich flavor with notes of vanilla, caramel, and oak. It has won several awards for its taste and quality, including a gold medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
