Vladimir Filatov

Vladimir Petrovich Filatov (27 February 1875 – 30 October 1956) was a prominent Soviet ophthalmologist and surgeon known for his pioneering work in corneal transplantation and the development of the Filatov method for tissue therapy. Vladimir Filatov was born in the village of Mikhaylovka, in the Russian Empire. He showed an early interest in the sciences, which led him to pursue a medical education. Corneal Transplantation[edit | edit source]
Filatov is best known for his work in corneal transplantation. In 1931, he successfully performed the first full-thickness corneal transplant, a procedure that restored sight to patients with corneal blindness.
