- Wahoo was founded in 1870 and incorporated in 1889. The city's name is derived from the eastern wahoo (Euonymus atropurpureus), a shrub found on the banks of Wahoo Creek. The city's history is deeply rooted in agriculture, with many early settlers being farmers and ranchers.

- Wahoo is located at 41°13′N 96°37′W. The city has a total area of 2.65 square miles, all of it land. It is situated in the eastern part of Nebraska, approximately 30 miles west of Omaha.
