Walhalla is a city located in Oconee County, in the northwestern part of the state of South Carolina. It serves as the county seat of Oconee County. The city is situated in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, providing a picturesque setting and a rich history.

Walhalla was founded in 1850 by a group of German immigrants from Hamburg, who were seeking a new life in America. The name "Walhalla" is derived from the Norse mythology term "Valhalla," which refers to the hall of the slain, a majestic hall ruled by the god Odin. The town was officially incorporated in 1893.
