Washed Out is an American musical project formed by Ernest Greene in 2009. Hailing from Perry, Georgia, Washed Out is known for pioneering the genre of chillwave. The music of Washed Out is characterized by its dreamy, atmospheric soundscapes and nostalgic vibes.

Ernest Greene began creating music under the moniker Washed Out while he was living in Columbia, South Carolina. In 2009, he gained significant attention with the release of his debut EP, Life of Leisure. The EP featured the popular single "Feel It All Around", which gained widespread recognition after being used as the theme song for the television series Portlandia.

Following the success of his debut EP, Washed Out signed with the renowned indie label Sub Pop and released his debut studio album, Within and Without, in 2011. The album received critical acclaim for its lush production and introspective lyrics. Washed Out's sophomore album, Paracosm, was released in 2013 and further solidified his position as a leading figure in the chillwave genre.

In 2017, Washed Out released his third studio album, Mister Mellow. This album showcased a more experimental and electronic sound, incorporating elements of hip-hop and R&B. Washed Out's music continued to evolve, demonstrating his versatility as an artist.
