Websterville, Vermont

Websterville, Vermont is an unincorporated village in the town of Barre, Washington County, Vermont, United States. The village is located towards the southeast of the town center along Vermont Route 14.

Websterville was named after the Webster family who were early settlers in the region. The village grew around the granite industry, with several quarries and granite processing facilities located in and around the village. The Websterville Baptist Church is a historic site in the village, built in the late 19th century.

Geography[edit | edit source]

Websterville is located in the southeastern part of the town of Barre, along the Stevens Branch of the Winooski River. The village is primarily residential, with a mix of single-family homes and apartment buildings. The surrounding area is characterized by rolling hills and mixed forest.

Economy[edit | edit source]

The economy of Websterville is largely based on the granite industry, with several quarries and processing facilities located in the village. The Rock of Ages Corporation, one of the largest granite quarries in the world, is located in Websterville. Other industries in the village include manufacturing and retail.

Education[edit | edit source]

Websterville is part of the Barre Unified Union School District, which includes the Websterville Elementary School and the Spaulding High School in nearby Barre.

Transportation[edit | edit source]

Vermont Route 14 is the main road through the village, leading north to the town center of Barre and south to Williamstown. The Green Mountain Transit provides public transportation services in the village.

Notable people[edit | edit source]

  • John LeClair, former professional ice hockey player, was born in Websterville.
  • William P. Dillingham, 44th Governor of Vermont and U.S. Senator, lived in Websterville.
