West End Draught
West End Draught[edit | edit source]
West End Draught is a popular Australian beer that has been brewed in South Australia since 1859. It is a full-strength lager with a robust flavor and a rich history.
History[edit | edit source]
West End Brewery, the producer of West End Draught, was established in 1859 in Hindley Street, Adelaide. The brewery has changed hands several times over the years, but it has always remained a South Australian icon. In 1888, it was acquired by the South Australian Brewing Company, which later merged with other breweries to form Lion Nathan in 1993.
Production[edit | edit source]
West End Draught is brewed using traditional methods and the finest ingredients. The brewing process begins with the selection of high-quality barley, which is malted and milled to create the malt. The malt is then mixed with water and heated to extract the sugars. This mixture, known as the wort, is boiled and then cooled before yeast is added. The yeast ferments the sugars in the wort, producing alcohol and carbon dioxide. The beer is then filtered and packaged for distribution.
Taste and Appearance[edit | edit source]
West End Draught is known for its full-bodied flavor and smooth finish. It has a deep golden color and a creamy head. The beer has a malty aroma with hints of fruit and hops. The taste is balanced, with a blend of sweet malt and bitter hops.
Popularity[edit | edit source]
West End Draught is a staple in many South Australian pubs and is also available in bottles and cans for home consumption. It is the beer of choice for many South Australians and is often associated with local sporting events, particularly Australian Rules Football.
Awards[edit | edit source]
Over the years, West End Draught has won numerous awards for its quality and taste. These include gold medals at the Australian International Beer Awards and the Royal Adelaide Beer & Cider Awards.
