Early Life[edit | edit source]
William Proby was born in 1779 into the Proby family, a prominent family with significant political and social influence. His father, John Proby, 1st Earl of Carysfort, was a notable figure in British politics, serving as a Member of Parliament and later being elevated to the peerage.

Proby joined the Royal Navy at a young age, following the tradition of many aristocratic families of the time. He quickly rose through the ranks due to his noble birth and demonstrated competence. His naval career was marked by his service during the French Revolutionary Wars and the early stages of the Napoleonic Wars.
Political Career[edit | edit source]
In addition to his naval career, Proby also pursued a career in politics. He was elected as a Member of Parliament for County of Wicklow in 1802, a position he held until his untimely death in 1804. His political career, though brief, was marked by his commitment to his constituents and his support for the policies of the Pittite government.
Death and Legacy[edit | edit source]
William Proby, Lord Proby, died on 6 August 1804 at the age of 25. His death was a significant loss to both the Royal Navy and the political landscape of the time. He was succeeded by his younger brother, Granville Leveson Proby, 3rd Earl of Carysfort, who continued the family's naval and political legacy.
Family[edit | edit source]
Proby was a member of the Proby family, which held the title of Earl of Carysfort. His father, John Proby, 1st Earl of Carysfort, and his brother, Granville Leveson Proby, 3rd Earl of Carysfort, were also notable figures in British history.
