From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

William Trubridge‏‎ is a world-renowned free-diver from New Zealand. Born on May 24, 1980, Trubridge has set multiple world records in various disciplines of free-diving, particularly in the categories of Constant Weight Apnea without Fins and Free Immersion Apnea.

Early Life[edit | edit source]

Trubridge was born in the United Kingdom, but his family moved to New Zealand when he was just 18 months old. He grew up in the Hawke's Bay region, where he developed a love for the ocean and began his journey into free-diving.

Career[edit | edit source]

Trubridge's free-diving career began in earnest in 2003, when he attended a free-diving course in the Bay of Islands. He quickly demonstrated a natural talent for the sport, and by 2004, he was competing in international competitions.

In 2007, Trubridge became the first person to dive more than 80 meters without the use of fins, weights, or any other form of assistance, setting a new world record in the process. He has since broken his own record multiple times, with his current record standing at 102 meters.

In addition to his competitive achievements, Trubridge is also a prominent advocate for ocean conservation. He has used his platform to raise awareness about issues such as overfishing and climate change, and in 2011, he was named a UNEP "Champion of the Earth" in recognition of his efforts.

Personal Life[edit | edit source]

Trubridge currently resides in the Bahamas, where he runs a free-diving school called Vertical Blue at Dean's Blue Hole, one of the world's deepest known blue holes.
