Wired is a monthly American magazine, published in print and online editions, that focuses on how emerging technologies affect culture, the economy, and politics. Owned by Condé Nast, it is headquartered in San Francisco, California and has been in publication since March 1993. Several spin-offs have been launched, including Wired UK, Wired Italia, Wired Japan, and Wired Germany.

Wired was founded by American journalists Louis Rossetto and Jane Metcalfe in 1993, with the help of Nicholas Negroponte and MIT Media Lab. The founding executive editor of Wired, Kevin Kelly, was an editor of the Whole Earth Catalog and the Whole Earth Review and brought a countercultural sensibility to the magazine.

Wired's content covers a broad range of topics, including technology, business, science, and culture. The magazine is known for coining new terms, such as "the Long Tail", "crowdsourcing", and "Web 2.0". It also regularly features articles on digital culture, the future of work, and profiles of tech industry figures.

Online presence[edit | edit source]

In addition to its monthly print magazine, Wired maintains a website that publishes a mix of original reporting and articles from the print magazine. The website also includes a blog network, video content, and a podcast.

Impact[edit | edit source]

Wired has been recognized for its influence on technology and culture. It has won numerous awards, including the National Magazine Award for General Excellence in 2005, 2007, and 2009.
