World Banana Forum

World Banana Forum is an international platform that brings together producers, trade unions, cooperatives, exporters, retailers, governments, research institutions, and civil society organizations to promote sustainable banana production and trade. The forum was established in 2009 under the auspices of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations.

The World Banana Forum was established in 2009 during a conference held in Rome, Italy. The forum was created in response to the challenges faced by the global banana industry, including environmental, social, and economic issues. The forum aims to promote dialogue and collaboration among stakeholders in the banana sector to address these challenges.

The main objectives of the World Banana Forum are to:

  • Improve the social, environmental, and economic sustainability of the banana sector
  • Promote dialogue and collaboration among stakeholders
  • Encourage and support initiatives aimed at improving the living conditions of workers in the banana industry
  • Promote gender equity in the banana sector
  • Facilitate the sharing of best practices and knowledge among stakeholders

The World Banana Forum is composed of three working groups:

  • Working Group 1: Sustainable Production Systems and Environmental Impact
  • Working Group 2: Distribution of Value along the Supply Chain
  • Working Group 3: Labour Rights and Other Workplace Issues

Each working group is responsible for developing and implementing projects and initiatives that align with the forum's objectives.
