Wraps A wrap is a type of food dish made with a soft flatbread rolled around a filling. It is similar to a sandwich, but instead of using slices of bread, it uses a flatbread such as a tortilla, lavash, or pita. Wraps can be filled with a variety of ingredients, including meats, vegetables, cheeses, and sauces.

The concept of wrapping food in flatbread has ancient origins and can be found in many cultures. For example, the Mexican burrito and the Middle Eastern shawarma are both types of wraps. The modern wrap, as it is known in Western cuisine, gained popularity in the 1990s in the United States.

  • Hummus wrap: A vegetarian wrap that includes hummus, a spread made from cooked, mashed chickpeas, blended with tahini, olive oil, lemon juice, salt, and garlic, along with various vegetables.

The ingredients used in wraps can vary widely depending on the type of wrap and personal preferences. Common ingredients include:

  • Flatbread: Tortilla, lavash, pita, or other types of flatbread.
  • Protein: Chicken, beef, lamb, pork, fish, tofu, or legumes.
  • Vegetables: Lettuce, tomatoes, onions, cucumbers, bell peppers, and avocados.
  • Cheese: Cheddar, mozzarella, feta, or other types of cheese.
  • Sauces: Hummus, tzatziki, salsa, guacamole, sour cream, or various dressings.

Preparation[edit | edit source]

To prepare a wrap, the flatbread is typically warmed to make it more pliable. The chosen ingredients are then placed in the center of the flatbread, and the sides are folded over the filling. The wrap is then rolled tightly to enclose the ingredients. Some wraps may be grilled or toasted to add a crispy texture.
