Wyke Farms

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

Wyke Farms is a family-owned British dairy company based in Somerset, England. It is one of the largest independent cheese producers and milk processors in the UK, producing over 14,000 tonnes of Cheddar cheese annually.

History[edit | edit source]

The company was founded in 1861 by the Clothier family in the rural area of Somerset. The family's dairy farming heritage can be traced back over 150 years to the time when Tom Clothier, the great, great grandfather of the current managing director, Richard Clothier, first made cheese in the farm's dairy.

Operations[edit | edit source]

Wyke Farms sources all of its milk from cows grazed in Somerset. The company's commitment to sustainable farming has led to the implementation of several green initiatives, including the use of a biogas plant that converts farm and dairy waste into energy. This has made Wyke Farms the first national cheddar brand to be 100% self-sufficient in green energy.

The company's product range includes a variety of cheddar cheeses, from mild to extra mature, as well as butter. Wyke Farms' products are sold in supermarkets across the UK and are also exported to over 160 countries worldwide.

Recognition[edit | edit source]

Wyke Farms has received numerous awards for its cheese, including the International Cheese Awards and the British Cheese Awards. The company's commitment to sustainability has also been recognized with awards such as the Green Energy Award.
