Yaakov Edri
Yaakov Edri (born 25 November 1950) is an Israeli politician who has served in various ministerial roles and as a member of the Knesset for several political parties.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Yaakov Edri was born in Morocco and immigrated to Israel in 1959. He completed his high school education in Or Akiva and later earned a Bachelor's degree in History from the University of Haifa.
Political Career[edit | edit source]
Edri began his political career as the mayor of Or Akiva, a position he held from 1989 to 2003. During his tenure, he focused on improving the city's infrastructure and educational facilities.
Knesset Membership[edit | edit source]
In 2003, Edri was elected to the Knesset as a member of the Likud party. He later joined the Kadima party, founded by Ariel Sharon, and was re-elected in 2006. Throughout his time in the Knesset, Edri served on various committees, including the Finance Committee and the Internal Affairs and Environment Committee.
Ministerial Roles[edit | edit source]
Edri has held several ministerial positions:
- **Minister of Health**: Appointed in 2006, he focused on improving the healthcare system and increasing funding for hospitals.
- **Minister of Immigrant Absorption**: In this role, he worked on policies to assist new immigrants in integrating into Israeli society.
- **Minister of Negev and Galilee Development**: Edri was responsible for promoting economic and social development in these regions.

Yaakov Edri is married and has three children. He resides in Or Akiva.
