Yorkie is a chocolate bar made by Nestlé. It was originally created by Rowntree's of York, England in 1976. The bar was developed as a direct competitor to Cadbury's Dairy Milk and was aimed at the male market, with the slogan "It's not for girls!" which has since been dropped.

History[edit | edit source]

The Yorkie bar was launched in 1976 by Rowntree's of York, hence the name. The bar was designed to be chunkier and more substantial than other chocolate bars on the market at the time. In 1988, Nestlé acquired Rowntree's and continued to produce the Yorkie bar.

Marketing[edit | edit source]

The Yorkie bar was initially marketed with the slogan "It's not for girls!" and featured advertisements that emphasized its rugged, masculine image. This slogan was controversial and was eventually dropped in 2006. The bar is now marketed as a chocolate bar for everyone.

Varieties[edit | edit source]

Over the years, several varieties of the Yorkie bar have been produced, including:

  • Yorkie Raisin & Biscuit
  • Yorkie Honeycomb
  • Yorkie Peanut
  • Yorkie Orange

The standard Yorkie bar is made from milk chocolate and contains the following ingredients:

  • Sugar
  • Whole milk powder
  • Cocoa butter
  • Cocoa mass
  • Whey powder

  • Emulsifier (Lecithin)
  • Flavoring

Packaging[edit | edit source]

The Yorkie bar is typically packaged in a distinctive blue wrapper with the Yorkie logo prominently displayed. Special editions and different varieties may feature different colors and designs.

Cultural Impact[edit | edit source]

The Yorkie bar has become a recognizable part of British confectionery culture. Its original marketing campaign has been the subject of much discussion and analysis in terms of gender-targeted advertising.
