History[edit | edit source]

YouTube was created by Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim. The trio were all early employees of PayPal, which left them enriched after the company was bought by eBay. Hurley had studied design at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and Chen and Karim studied computer science together at the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign.

Content[edit | edit source]

YouTube content is uploaded by individuals, media corporations, and organizations. It includes music videos, TV show clips, documentary films, movie trailers, live streams, video blogs (vlogs), and educational videos. YouTube has also become a platform for individuals and companies to make money through YouTube Partner Program.

Impact on Society[edit | edit source]

YouTube has had a significant impact on pop culture, internet culture, and society at large. It has been a platform for launching careers of many musicians and has been a source of news, entertainment, and education for millions of people worldwide.

Health and Medicine[edit | edit source]

YouTube has also been used as a platform for sharing health and medical information. Many health organizations, hospitals, and individual healthcare professionals have channels where they share informational videos on a variety of health topics.
