Youngia japonica
Youngia japonica, also known as Oriental False Hawksbeard, is a species of flowering plant in the Asteraceae family. It is native to East Asia but has become a cosmopolitan weed.

Youngia japonica is an annual or biennial plant that grows from 10 to 80 cm tall. The leaves are mostly basal, with the blade elliptic to lanceolate, and 3–15 cm long. The flower heads are borne singly or in loose, open clusters. Each head is about 1 cm in diameter, with yellow ray florets. The fruit is an achene with a pappus of white hair.
Distribution and habitat[edit | edit source]
Youngia japonica is native to East Asia, including China, Japan, and Korea. It has been introduced to many other parts of the world, including North America, Europe, and Australia. It is often found in disturbed sites, such as roadsides, fields, and waste areas.
Uses[edit | edit source]
In traditional Chinese medicine, Youngia japonica is used to treat various ailments, including coughs, colds, and inflammation. It is also used as a food source in some parts of its native range.
Cultivation[edit | edit source]
Youngia japonica is a hardy plant that can grow in a variety of conditions. It prefers full sun to partial shade and well-drained soil. It can be propagated by seed.
