ZM-447439

ZM-447439 is a selective and ATP-competitive inhibitor for Aurora kinase A and B, two enzymes that are involved in the regulation of mitosis. It was first developed by AstraZeneca and has been used extensively in the study of the role of Aurora kinases in cancer cell division.

Mechanism of Action[edit | edit source]

ZM-447439 works by inhibiting the activity of Aurora kinases A and B. These kinases are critical for the proper progression of mitosis, the process by which cells divide. By inhibiting these kinases, ZM-447439 disrupts normal cell division, leading to cell death. This makes it a potential therapeutic agent for various types of cancer, where uncontrolled cell division is a hallmark.

Uses[edit | edit source]

ZM-447439 is primarily used in research settings to study the role of Aurora kinases in cell division and cancer. It has been used in a variety of experimental models, including human cancer cell lines and animal models of cancer.

Side Effects[edit | edit source]

As a research tool, the side effects of ZM-447439 are not well-studied. However, given its mechanism of action, it is likely that it could have significant side effects if used in humans, particularly on rapidly dividing cells such as those in the bone marrow or gastrointestinal tract.
