Biography[edit | edit source]
Zerka T. Moreno was born into a Jewish family in the Netherlands. She moved to the United States in the late 1930s, where she met Jacob L. Moreno, a psychiatrist and the creator of psychodrama. They married in 1942. Zerka Moreno worked closely with her husband, contributing to the theory and methodology of psychodrama, a form of therapy that uses guided drama and role playing to help individuals explore and gain insight into their lives.
Together, they established the Moreno Institute in Beacon, New York, which became a leading center for the study and practice of psychodrama. Zerka Moreno's work at the institute and her publications have been instrumental in training therapists and promoting the use of psychodrama worldwide.

Zerka Moreno authored and co-authored several influential books and articles on psychodrama, including "Psychodrama: Foundations of Psychotherapy" and "Who Shall Survive? Foundations of Sociometry, Group Psychotherapy and Sociodrama", co-authored with Jacob L. Moreno. Her writings have been pivotal in establishing psychodrama as a recognized therapeutic approach.
