A zero-emissions vehicle (ZEV) is a vehicle that emits no exhaust gas from the onboard source of power. This includes vehicles that do not emit any pollutants from the tailpipe, such as carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxides, and particulates. ZEVs are a crucial component in reducing air pollution and mitigating climate change.

Fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) generate electricity through a chemical reaction between hydrogen and oxygen in a fuel cell. The only byproduct of this reaction is water vapor, making FCEVs a clean alternative. The Honda Clarity Fuel Cell and Toyota Mirai are examples of FCEVs.
Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs)[edit | edit source]
Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) combine a conventional internal combustion engine with an electric propulsion system. They can operate in zero-emission mode using the electric motor and switch to the combustion engine when the battery is depleted. While not entirely zero-emission, PHEVs can significantly reduce emissions compared to traditional vehicles.

Electric bicycles and scooters are lightweight vehicles powered by electric motors. They are popular in urban areas for short-distance travel and are considered zero-emission when charged with renewable energy sources.
