Zuda Comics was an online imprint of DC Comics that focused on webcomics. It was launched in October 2007 and was active until July 2010. The imprint was created to discover new talent and provide a platform for webcomic creators to showcase their work.

History[edit | edit source]

Zuda Comics was announced by DC Comics in July 2007 as a new initiative to explore the growing webcomics market. The platform allowed creators to submit their webcomics, which were then reviewed by a panel of judges. Selected entries were published on the Zuda Comics website, where readers could vote for their favorites. The most popular webcomics were given the opportunity to continue their series and receive a contract from DC Comics.

Format and Submission Process[edit | edit source]

Creators submitted their webcomics to Zuda Comics through an online submission process. Each submission consisted of an eight-page sample of the webcomic, along with a synopsis and character descriptions. The submissions were reviewed by a panel of judges, including editors from DC Comics and other industry professionals.

Once selected, the webcomics were published on the Zuda Comics website, where readers could vote for their favorite series. The webcomic with the most votes at the end of each competition period was awarded a contract to continue their series on the platform.

Notable Titles and Creators[edit | edit source]

Several notable webcomics and creators emerged from Zuda Comics during its run. Some of the most popular titles included:

These webcomics received critical acclaim and helped to establish Zuda Comics as a significant player in the webcomics industry.

Closure[edit | edit source]

In July 2010, DC Comics announced that it would be shutting down the Zuda Comics website as part of a larger restructuring of its digital content strategy. The decision was made to focus on other digital initiatives, including the development of digital comics for mobile devices and other platforms.

Legacy[edit | edit source]

Although Zuda Comics was short-lived, it had a lasting impact on the webcomics industry. The platform provided a valuable opportunity for new creators to showcase their work and gain exposure. Many of the creators who got their start on Zuda Comics went on to have successful careers in the comics industry.
