Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Zvi Laron was born in Cernăuți, Romania, which is now Chernivtsi, Ukraine. He pursued his medical education at the University of Geneva in Switzerland, where he graduated with a degree in medicine. Following his graduation, Laron moved to Israel, where he began his career in pediatric endocrinology.

Discovery of Laron Syndrome[edit | edit source]
In the 1960s, Zvi Laron identified a group of patients who exhibited symptoms of dwarfism but had high levels of growth hormone. This led to the discovery of what is now known as Laron syndrome, a condition caused by a mutation in the growth hormone receptor gene, resulting in growth hormone insensitivity. This discovery was pivotal in understanding the role of growth hormone and its receptor in human growth and development.
Contributions to Endocrinology[edit | edit source]
Laron's work extended beyond the discovery of Laron syndrome. He has published extensively on various aspects of pediatric endocrinology, including diabetes, growth disorders, and hormonal regulation. His research has provided insights into the treatment and management of these conditions, influencing clinical practices worldwide.
Awards and Recognition[edit | edit source]
