1 May 2015 Jalisco attacks

The 1 May 2015 Jalisco attacks were a series of coordinated assaults carried out by the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) in the state of Jalisco, Mexico. These attacks were part of a broader conflict between the CJNG and the Mexican government, which has been ongoing since the cartel's formation.

Background[edit | edit source]

The Jalisco New Generation Cartel is one of the most powerful and violent criminal organizations in Mexico. It emerged in the early 2010s and quickly gained notoriety for its aggressive tactics and willingness to confront Mexican security forces directly. The CJNG's rise to power has been marked by numerous violent incidents, including the 1 May 2015 attacks.

Events[edit | edit source]

On 1 May 2015, the CJNG launched a series of attacks across Jalisco, targeting security forces and infrastructure. The attacks included the use of roadblocks, arson, and shootings. One of the most significant incidents was the downing of a Mexican Army helicopter, which resulted in the deaths of several soldiers.

Roadblocks and Arson[edit | edit source]

The CJNG set up numerous roadblocks throughout Jalisco, using stolen vehicles and other obstacles to disrupt traffic and hinder the movement of security forces. In addition to the roadblocks, the cartel set fire to several vehicles and buildings, causing widespread panic and chaos.

Helicopter Downing[edit | edit source]

One of the most notable events of the day was the downing of a Mexican Army helicopter. The helicopter was shot down by CJNG gunmen using a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG). The attack resulted in the deaths of several soldiers and marked a significant escalation in the cartel's tactics.

Aftermath[edit | edit source]

The 1 May 2015 attacks had a profound impact on the security situation in Jalisco and highlighted the growing power and audacity of the CJNG. In response to the attacks, the Mexican government increased its efforts to combat the cartel, deploying additional security forces to the region and launching a series of operations aimed at dismantling the CJNG's network.
