4'-Methoxy-α-pyrrolidinopentiophenone

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

4'-Methoxy-α-pyrrolidinopentiophenone (MOPPP) is a designer drug that belongs to the cathinone class. It is a synthetic stimulant of the amphetamine class. MOPPP is a higher homologue of 4'-Methyl-α-pyrrolidinopropiophenone (MPPP), with an additional carbon on the alkyl side chain.

Chemistry[edit | edit source]

4'-Methoxy-α-pyrrolidinopentiophenone is a synthetic cathinone. Cathinones are a sub-category of amphetamines, sharing the core amphetamine structure of a phenyl ring bound to an amino (NH2) group through an ethyl chain with an additional methyl substitution at Rα. MOPPP contains an additional alkyl substitution at R4 of the phenyl ring with the oxygen group connected by the methylene bridge. It also has an additional substitution at RN with a pyrrolidine ring.

Pharmacology[edit | edit source]

The pharmacology of MOPPP is not well-studied. However, it is known that synthetic cathinones are monoamine releasers. They exert their effects by increasing the levels of dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin in the brain. This leads to feelings of euphoria, increased alertness, and increased energy. The pyrrolidine ring in the structure of MOPPP may potentially make it more potent than other synthetic cathinones.

Legality[edit | edit source]

The legality of MOPPP varies by country. In the United States, it is not specifically listed as a controlled substance, but it may be considered an analog of other illegal cathinones, making its sale, possession, or use potentially punishable under the Federal Analogue Act. In the United Kingdom, MOPPP is a Class B drug under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971.

Health Risks[edit | edit source]

As with other synthetic cathinones, the use of MOPPP can lead to harmful health effects. These can include tachycardia, hypertension, vasoconstriction, and in severe cases, cardiac failure. Other potential effects include anxiety, paranoia, hallucinations, and psychosis. Chronic use can lead to addiction and dependence.
