4,4'-Dimethylaminorex

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

4,4'-Dimethylaminorex (4,4'-DMAR), also known as Serotoni, is a psychoactive drug and research chemical of the 2-amino-5-aryloxazoline class that has been sold online as a designer drug. It was first identified in the Netherlands in December 2012, and has been sold as a designer drug around Europe since mid-2013.

Chemistry[edit | edit source]

4,4'-DMAR is a derivative of aminorex (4,5-dihydro-5-phenyl-2-oxazolamine) that has been substituted at the 4-position of the phenyl ring with a methyl group. It has a molecular formula of C11H14N2O and a molar mass of 190.24 g/mol.

Pharmacology[edit | edit source]

The pharmacology of 4,4'-DMAR is not well known, but it is thought to act as a potent and balanced serotonin-norepinephrine-dopamine reuptake inhibitor (SNDRI). This means it effectively increases the levels of the neurotransmitters serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine in the brain by inhibiting their reuptake into neurons.

Effects[edit | edit source]

The effects of 4,4'-DMAR can vary greatly depending on the dose and individual's physiology. However, common effects reported by users include euphoria, increased energy, enhanced focus, and heightened sensory perception. At higher doses, effects can include anxiety, paranoia, and hallucinations.

Health Risks[edit | edit source]

The use of 4,4'-DMAR has been associated with several deaths in Europe, primarily due to cardiovascular complications and hyperthermia. It is strongly advised to avoid use of this substance due to its high potential for harm and lack of medical use.

Legal Status[edit | edit source]

4,4'-DMAR is a controlled substance in many countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, and Germany. It is classified as a Schedule I substance under the United Nations Convention on Psychotropic Substances.
