The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) is an international non-profit organization dedicated to advancing science, engineering, and innovation throughout the world for the benefit of all people. Founded in 1848, AAAS is the world's largest general scientific society and the publisher of the journal Science, one of the most prestigious scientific journals.

The AAAS was established in 1848 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, with the goal of promoting scientific dialogue and collaboration. It was founded by William Charles Redfield and other prominent scientists of the time. The organization has grown significantly since its inception and now includes over 120,000 members from more than 91 countries.
Mission and Goals[edit | edit source]
The mission of AAAS is to "advance science, engineering, and innovation throughout the world for the benefit of all people." The organization aims to:
- Foster communication among scientists, engineers, and the public.
- Enhance international cooperation in science.
