ACPR1000

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

ACPR1000‏‎ is a Generation III reactor design developed by the China General Nuclear Power Group (CGN). It is an advanced pressurized water reactor (PWR) with a design life of 60 years and a gross power output of 1,100 MWe. The ACPR1000‏‎ is a significant part of China's nuclear power expansion plans and represents a step towards more advanced reactor designs.

Design[edit | edit source]

The ACPR1000‏‎ design is based on the earlier CPR-1000 design, but with several significant improvements. These include enhanced safety features, such as a double containment structure to prevent the release of radioactive materials, and a core catcher to contain molten fuel in the event of a severe accident. The reactor also has a passive residual heat removal system, which can cool the reactor without the need for external power.

Development[edit | edit source]

The development of the ACPR1000‏‎ began in 2011, with the aim of creating a reactor design that could be exported globally. The first ACPR1000‏‎ reactor, Yangjiang Unit 5, began commercial operation in 2018. As of 2020, several more ACPR1000‏‎ reactors are under construction in China and other countries.

Safety[edit | edit source]

The ACPR1000‏‎ has been designed with a focus on safety. It meets the safety requirements of both the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the European Utility Requirements (EUR). The reactor's safety systems are designed to withstand extreme events, such as earthquakes and tsunamis, and to prevent severe accidents.

Future[edit | edit source]

The ACPR1000‏‎ is seen as a stepping stone towards more advanced reactor designs, such as the Hualong One, which is also being developed by CGN. The Hualong One incorporates further improvements on the ACPR1000‏‎ design, including enhanced safety features and a higher power output.
