ACRIA

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

ACRIA is a non-profit organization that conducts research, provides education, and offers supportive services to people living with HIV/AIDS. Founded in 1991, ACRIA (AIDS Community Research Initiative of America) has been instrumental in the development of numerous medications used to treat HIV/AIDS and has trained thousands of healthcare providers and individuals on HIV prevention and treatment.

History[edit | edit source]

ACRIA was established in 1991 in response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic. The organization was founded by a group of physicians, activists, and people living with HIV who were frustrated by the slow pace of government and pharmaceutical company research. They believed that community-based research could speed up the development of new treatments.

Research[edit | edit source]

ACRIA's research program focuses on the development of new treatments for HIV/AIDS. The organization has been involved in the development of many of the medications that are now standard treatments for HIV. ACRIA's research has also contributed to the understanding of how HIV affects the body and how the virus can be controlled.

Education[edit | edit source]

ACRIA provides education and training on HIV prevention and treatment to healthcare providers, people living with HIV, and the general public. The organization offers a variety of educational materials and programs, including workshops, webinars, and publications.

Supportive Services[edit | edit source]

In addition to its research and education programs, ACRIA offers supportive services to people living with HIV. These services include case management, mental health counseling, and assistance with accessing healthcare and social services.
