AM-678

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

AM-678 is a synthetic cannabinoid that acts as a potent agonist for the cannabinoid receptors. It was first identified in Japan in 2012. Although it was developed for medicinal use, it has been sold as a designer drug.

Chemistry[edit | edit source]

AM-678 is a derivative of cannabidiol, a cannabinoid found in cannabis. It is a full agonist at both the CB1 and CB2 receptors, with a binding affinity of 0.45 nM at CB1 and 0.69 nM at CB2. This makes it significantly more potent than natural cannabinoids such as THC, which is a partial agonist at these receptors.

Pharmacology[edit | edit source]

The pharmacological effects of AM-678 are similar to those of other cannabinoids. It produces feelings of euphoria, relaxation, and altered perception. However, it also has a number of side effects, including anxiety, paranoia, and psychosis. These effects are thought to be due to its high potency and full agonist activity at the CB1 receptor.

Legal Status[edit | edit source]

AM-678 is illegal in many countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, and Japan. It is often sold as a "legal high" or "research chemical", but these sales are usually illegal. In the United States, it is classified as a Schedule I controlled substance, which means it has a high potential for abuse and no accepted medical use.
