AOBEM
American Osteopathic Board of Emergency Medicine (AOBEM) The American Osteopathic Board of Emergency Medicine (AOBEM) is a professional organization that provides board certification to qualified osteopathic physicians (DOs) specializing in emergency medicine. The AOBEM is one of the 18 certifying boards of the American Osteopathic Association Bureau of Osteopathic Specialists (AOABOS).
History[edit | edit source]
The AOBEM was established to ensure that osteopathic physicians specializing in emergency medicine meet the highest standards of practice. The board certification process includes rigorous examinations and continuous education requirements to maintain certification.
Certification Process[edit | edit source]
To become board certified by the AOBEM, candidates must complete an accredited residency program in emergency medicine, pass both written and oral examinations, and meet other criteria set by the board. The certification is valid for ten years, after which physicians must undergo a recertification process.
Written Examination[edit | edit source]
The written examination tests the candidate's knowledge in various areas of emergency medicine, including cardiology, toxicology, trauma, and pediatrics.
Oral Examination[edit | edit source]
The oral examination assesses the candidate's ability to apply their knowledge in clinical scenarios, demonstrating their problem-solving skills and decision-making abilities in emergency situations.
Maintenance of Certification (MOC)[edit | edit source]
The AOBEM requires certified physicians to participate in the Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. This program includes continuous medical education (CME), self-assessment modules, and periodic re-examinations to ensure that physicians remain up-to-date with the latest advancements in emergency medicine.
