Abalakov thread, also known as the V-thread ice anchor, is a type of ice climbing anchor named after its inventor, Vitaly Abalakov, a prominent Soviet mountaineer and inventor. This technique is widely used in mountaineering, ice climbing, and glacier travel for creating a secure anchor point in ice, allowing climbers to belay or rappel safely.

The Abalakov thread involves drilling two intersecting holes in the ice at an angle to each other, forming a V-shape when viewed from the side.
